Poker Player Who Dressed as Pirate Arrested for Stabbing, Running Over Victims
A poker player from Iowa, famous for competing in tournaments dressed as the vibrant fictional pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, was apprehended in Oklahoma on Monday following an assault that resulted in two individuals being hospitalized.
Scotter Clark is charged with stabbing a man in the chest and head before driving over a woman with his pickup truck. The conflict occurred after Clark supposedly approached the woman in a parking area in Tulsa, Okla, and offered her money for sex.
When the man accompanying the woman confronted Clark, police report that the poker player drew a knife.
A witness managed to obtain the license plate of Clark’s blue pickup truck after it supposedly struck the female victim. Clark was apprehended soon after.
According to Tulsa Police, both victims are anticipated to heal from their injuries.
Clark acknowledged being present in the vicinity during the event but asserted that the confrontation started after someone had illegally entered his truck, according to law enforcement.
He faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and is presently held at the Tulsa Municipal Jail.
Prohibited from Caesars Properties
Since 2015, Clark has accumulated $500K in gross tournament winnings and last year secured a WSOP Circuit ring by finishing first in the “Big O” event at Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant.
Clark is absent from this year’s WSOP due to being banned from all Caesars properties in 2022. He stated to Poker.org back then that this was due to Caesars security's disapproval of a set of prop pirate guns he had taken to that year's WSOP for his Captain Jack outfit.
Drug Trafficking, Mafia-Associated History
Clark started his competitive tournament journey in 2015. He was incarcerated in a federal prison during the poker boom of the mid-2000s, so he missed out. In 2001, he received a 15-year sentence for drug trafficking and laundering money.
Prior to his time pretending to be a fictional pirate at poker tables, he ran a table dancing venture, Pleasures Entertainment, and a limousine rental service, Elegant Limousines, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Federal prosecutors also alleged that he was involved in loan sharking, unlawful sports betting, and prostitution, even though he was not ultimately charged with those offenses.
Court documents indicate that Clark connected with New York’s Lucchese Crime Family to ensure a reliable supply of cocaine and marijuana and to enlist their force for debt recovery.
BigDogPoker Leader
Following his release, Clark became one of the operators of the gray-market online poker website BigDogPoker.net. Several users claimed that the site banned or suspended the accounts of successful players while retaining their funds.
The website eventually closed down in early 2021. Although there was initial doubt, feedback from the poker community shows that more than 90% of players ultimately received their payments.
